What is a type catalog?

A type catalog (comma-delimited text file (.txt)) is an external file that contains specified syntax for family types and parameters. It is best practice to keep the list of family types within the model to six or less. If more are needed, a type catalog with specified syntax should be created.

The type catalog file must be in the same folder and location and have the same file name as the corresponding Revit family; if not, the types and data will not load into a project file.
